New flood safety district
 
 
In June, the Oregon State Legislature passed legislation creating a new special district designed to meet long-term flood safety needs along the Columbia, while also allowing for improved environmental stewardship in the managed floodplain and a more equitable distribution of costs based on both services and benefits received.

This district will ultimately take over operating the local 27-mile levee system, which is currently managed by four drainage districts: Peninsula Drainage District #1 (PEN 1), Peninsula Drainage District #2 (PEN 2), Multnomah County Drainage District (MCDD), and Sandy Drainage Improvement Company (SDIC). First, a board of directors needs to be appointed to set up the new district and create a revenue structure to support it.

Join us for a special evening with Adriano Martinez, a Los Angeles-based Earthjustice attorney

What’s next for Oregon after the state legislature passed HB2007, which regulates diesel trucks in the Portland Metro region, to continue to address the most dangerous air pollution in our state? Can we tackle our biggest environmental challenges head on, and address the intersections of Environmental Justice, Air Quality and Climate?

We invite you for a very special evening with Adriano Martinez, an attorney from the Los Angeles office of Earthjustice, and presentations on the most recent Portland Metro region air quality research from Amelia Schlusser, attorney at the Green Energy Institute and Dr. Linda George, leading air quality environmental research specialist, Portland State University.

About Adriano Martinez: With over 15 years of experience, Adriano has specialized in air quality and healthy communities issues. His extensive litigation experience includes environmental claims in state and federal court. Since 2013, he has been an adjunct lecturer in law at UCLA School of Law, where he has co-taught a course on environmental justice. Adriano has presented on transportation electrification and other topics in environmental law at several conferences, including the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability’s Forum on Electrifying Transportation in California. He has unique expertise on reducing emissions from California’s freight sector and serves on the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach’s Sustainable Supply Chain Advisory Committee.

November 14 Council Meeting

This morning, City Council voted and approved the location of the November 14 council meeting to take place at Self Enhancement, Inc. (SEI). We will send another update next week with a detailed agenda for the meeting.

Time: 5:30 -8:00pm (doors open at 5:00pm, meeting will end promptly at 8:00pm) Food, refreshments, and childcare will be provided.

Will Public Testimony Be Allowed?
Yes. There will be an opportunity to sign up for public testimony on November 14 beginning at 5:00pm.
