October 14 ECNA General Meeting: Neighborhood Updates and a Fall Soup Exchange

Join your East Columbia neighbors on Wednesday, October 14, for our next general meeting. We’ll hear updates on local land-use issues, neighborhood cleanup efforts and opportunities to get involved. The evening also includes a Fall Soup Exchange beginning at 6 p.m.

Fall Soup Exchange

ECNA invites you to bring your favorite fall soup or chili to share and exchange with your neighbors!

Our Fall Soup Exchange begins at 6 p.m. Bring a pot of your favorite homemade soup or chili to share, and ECNA will provide bowls, bread, and crackers to round out the meal.

Be sure to bring a few mason jars or containers, too, so you can take home some of your favorite soups to enjoy later!

No competition and no prizes, just warm bowls, new recipes, and a cozy evening with neighbors.

General meeting to follow immediately afterwards at 7 p.m.

On the agenda

  • 7:00 p.m. – Land-use update: Alice Walker will lead a 45-minute discussion covering the proposed Amazon drone base on Schmeer Road, trucking noise and a proposed environmental zoning change.
  • 7:45 p.m. – November cookie bake-off: Barbara Neidig will share details about the cookie bake-off planned for November 11.
  • 7:50 p.m. – Neighborhood cleanup: Michelle Wickliff will provide an update on cleanup dumpsters.
  • 7:55 p.m. – Get involved with ECNA: Learn about vacant board and committee positions, along with block captain opportunities for Meadow Drive, South Shore Road, Lija Loop and Mariners Loop.

All neighbors are welcome. Come hear what’s happening, ask questions and connect with your community.

Annual Community Yard Sale – July 25th at Columbia Community Bible Church

Community Yard Sale at Columbia Community Bible Church

Columbia Community Bible Church invites neighbors to a Community Yard Sale on Saturday, July 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 420 NE Marine Dr.

Community and church members will be selling household goods and other choice finds. Come browse for a cherished item or two—some parking is available on site, with additional parking on surrounding streets.

Want to Sell?

Bring a table or blanket and set up on the back lawn at no charge. Please arrive around 8:00 a.m. to choose your space and unload. About 18–20 seller spaces are available, so please register soon. Sellers must remain on site with their items; no drop-offs are accepted for others to sell.

A light lunch of a store-bought sandwich, chips, and water will be provided for sellers.

Community Meeting & Potluck – Wed, February 11

Please join the East Columbia Neighborhood Association for our monthly general meeting at 7:00 PM.

At this meeting, we’ll be discussing upcoming zoning changes that may affect homeowners, along with other local neighborhood topics.

We’re also hosting a community potluck! The church will open at 6:30 PM, so neighbors can arrive early, enjoy some food, and connect before the meeting begins promptly at 7:00 PM.

C. NE Coalition of Neighborhoods Update

A brief report and updates from the NE Coalition of Neighborhoods.

D. ECNA Leadership

Introduction of the ECNA Board of Directors and leadership roles.

An overview of proposed zoning changes that may affect properties in the area. A short introduction will be provided, with a deeper discussion planned for the March meeting with a City planning representative present.

Neighbors are encouraged to explore how the proposed zoning may affect their property using the City’s online map tool.

G. Events & Programs for 2026

Board ideas for upcoming events will be shared, and neighbors are invited to offer suggestions. Volunteers will also be needed for event coordination and neighborhood signage.

You’re invited to take part in a fun, welcoming community workshop focused on the future of the Columbia Slough watershed.

The Flood Safety District (“the District”) is developing a Watershed Improvement Plan to guide flood protection and environmental health efforts over the next 10 years and beyond. This workshop is a chance for community members to share ideas, raise concerns, and help shape a plan that truly reflects local needs.

The more voices involved, the stronger and more responsive the plan will be.

Who’s Welcome

Anyone who lives, works, plays, or spends time in the Columbia Slough watershed is encouraged to attend. The District especially wants to hear from community members who have not always been equally included in past decision-making.
