Levee Evaluations on NE Marine Drive Expect Delays
(Portland) – Levee Ready Columbia is conducting geotechnical evaluations of the levee along the Columbia River to better understand the risk of flooding from the Columbia River. The work will also help ensure that the levee meets federal standards associated with flood insurance and development regulations.
The work includes the use of drilling equipment to take soil samples from the system of levees that reduce the risk of flooding for over 12,000 acres in north and northeast Portland, Fairview, Gresham, and Troutdale.
This work will result in lane closures and traffic delays on NE Marine Dr. for approximately three weeks (Mondays-Fridays from 7 am to 6 pm), starting the week of February 20, 2017.
Access to businesses and residences will remain open at all times.
During the work period on NE Marine Drive, segments one lane of traffic will be closed. A flagging crew will be on site. Marine Drive users are asked to consider alternate routes and to consult navigation, wayfinding, and road condition services such as ODOT’s Trip Check, Google Maps, Waze or similar services for assistance. Drilling work will be visible from the Marine Drive multi-use path (40 Mile Loop trail). The work also required some closures of the 40-mile loop trail east of Sundial Road. No additional trail closures are expected.
