Fall 2016

Welcome Fall
Columbia Children’s Arboretum

Welcome Fall!

The leaves on the trees are changing colors and more days of rain are being forecast by the local weather professional. Fall is in the air and it’s time to pull out the jacket from the closet. It’s also wonderful time to be outdoors exploring and enjoying the many amazing resources our area has to offer: the waterways, farmers markets, bike paths, the Arboretum, and the list goes on! With the new season comes change — a time to get your property ready for more wet and cold weather, add better lighting for safety, crime prevention tips, and getting involved with your neighborhood. Some ideas and reminders:

Do-it-Yourself Weatherization Workshop

Community Energy Project and North Portland Tool Library are excited to provide this free workshop on Thursday, October 13th, from 6:00-8:00pm, at the Historic Kenton Firehouse located at 2209 N Schofield. Learn more

Crime Prevention and Safety Reminders

With less sunlight on the horizon, it’s a good time to check for adequate outdoor lighting around your property. Light is a natural deterrant for burglars and thieves. Install or adjust motion detectors. Even a string of lights on shrubs will go a long way. With the holidays around the corner, take steps to secure packages delivered to your home. Along our residential roads, check your speed and keep a watchful eye for pedestrians crossing the street. Get more tips and know when to call for help

Comp Plan Update

Portland City Council will begin public hearings on Thursday, Oct. 6 regarding the Comprehensive Plan Update Recommended Early Implementation Package.Learn more.

Arboretum Awarded $1.1 million

The Columbia Children’s Arboretum in our neighborhood was awarded $1.1 million dollars from SDC funds (system development charges) to complete projects identified in the 2004 Management Plan. Public meetings will be held later this year. View the press release.

Please attend a community forum on Oct. 6, 5-9 pm to discuss and offer input on the N/NE Community Development Initiative Draft Action Plan. This Plan will guide how $32 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) resources for economic development are used in the Interstate Corridor Urban Renewal Area (URA).Register for the event.
