The City of Portland has chosen to end its agreement with our drainage district that limited how much our neighborhood residents and businesses pay in our city water bills for stormwater removal. As a result, our water bills are expected to increase significantly. A proposal for the increase will be presented to the Portland Utility Review Board on August 16th at 4:30pm and to City Council on September 5th at 3pm. Both meetings are at City Hall.
In addition, W.A.T.R., a citizens’ group, filed a lawsuit in Dec 2011 that calls for a judge to appoint an independent auditor to examine the sewer and water budgets to look for questionable spending. See their blogspot for any further information: http://www.waterreform.blogspot.com
