Blue Heron Wetlands project update: February 1, 2014

The Blue Heron Wetland Restoration Project (BHWRP) is proud to provide a summary of the past, present and future work within the Blue Heron Wetlands. With the primary goal to eradicate the invasive aquatic primrose (Ludwigia peploides ssp. montevidensis), the BHWRP has succeeded in decreasing the presence of this weed, increasing native plant diversity and improving the functionality of the wetland system. Efforts of the past two and a half years are highlighted within “The Eradication of Ludwigia peploides ssp. montevidensis from the Blue Heron Wetlands of Portland, OR. Project Update: February 1, 2014.”

The Project Update provides a summary of the eradication methods applied, scientific reporting of the results, current status of aquatic primrose within the wetlands and future actions of the project. The Project Update was created by project coordinator, Alex Staunch with the consultation of numerous local agencies and organizations. Fiscal support was provided on behalf of grants from Metro, East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District and North Portland Neighborhood Services.

The ECNA is very proud of the work of the Blue Heron Wetland Restoration Project and welcome questions or feedback from residents of the East Columbia Neighborhood: BHWetlands@ECNApdx.com

Crime alert

Recently, thieves stole gas from five local vehicles. They didn’t just siphon the gas; in some cases they did more damage by drilling holes in the gas tanks. The vehicles were on NE Gertz Road, between NE 13th Avenue and NE Levee Road. Please report even “small” crimes to the police. This helps them plan their coverage in an area and it increases the accuracy of crime stat websites that many people check for local issues.
