Remodel in neighborhood
To whom it may concern,
We are adding a second story and a 50 s.f. addition to the residence at 1421 Ne Gertz. We are creating 650 s.f. of new habitable space which exceeds the 500 s.f. max, thus qualifying it as an MRAA. The remodel will commence on or about 35 days from this email.
Please call or email me with any questions or concerns.

Arboretum care
If you get a chance stop in and thank them for all their work.
Thank you for your interest! This work party is now full and closed to further volunteer support — please consider any of our other open events, and thank you for your consideration!
****************
Join us as we mulch hundreds of native trees and shrubs that were planted this past winter! We may also take out some weedy introduced plants, if time allows. Our Tree Care events help to ensure the highest level of plant survival through our dry summer months.
Please arrive around 8:45am to be registered and assigned to a crew. The event will start promptly at 9:00am. We provide breakfast snacks and hot chocolate/coffee, as well as gloves, tools and guidance. Please come dressed for the weather, wear sturdy shoes (no sandals of any kind, please!)–and get ready to have fun!
Under age 18? A signed youth waiver is required for you to volunteer. We ask that youth 15 years and younger are accompanied by an adult.
Please contact Jenny, Pablo, or Carey at (503) 595-0213 // volunteer@friendsoftrees.org if you have questions or need any further information. We look forward to seeing you out there!
Accessible on Bus Line 6. For more directions, visit https://trimet.org/.

Gertz & Vancouver Way
Persistence Pays Off
Check out the newly improved intersection of N.E. Vancouver Way and N.E. Gertz Road. As of March 14, it now has four stop signs instead of two, plus four striped pedestrian crosswalks. How did this four-way stop come to be? People power!
Eight years ago, East Columbia residents Dick Towle, Gyrid Hyde Towle, Maryhelen Kincaid, Lorna Baxter and Carolyn May started lobbying the Portland Bureau of Transportation to include this corner in their Transportation Improvement Plan. The ECNA board at the time joined them in working with TriMet, Jubitz Travel Center, Deltawood, Fox Run, FedEx, Oak Harbor Freight Lines and PBOT.
Every year, the polite but firm public testimony of East Columbia neighbors continued. So much time went by that Dick passed away and Carolyn moved to another area. But now, PBOT has made the changes and that intersection is much safer—proof that persevering citizen involvement gets results.
